When Maria Dellapina couldn't find well-fitting glasses for her daughter with Down syndrome, she designed a pair herself. Learn how her company, Specs4Us, gives children and adults with unique facial features the chance to wear glasses that won't slip down their faces.

An optician by trade, Maria was fueled by the desire to provide her youngest daughter Erin, who was diagnosed with Down Syndrome at birth, an eyeglass frame that fit her properly. Maria combined her passion as a mother with her knowledge of eyeglasses and created Erin's World. This innovative eyeglass design includes a bridge that is adjusted to properly fit a low nasal bridge and temples (or “arms” of the glasses), which are modified to keep the glasses from constantly slipping down. Maria created SPECS4US to improve the sight and quality of life for children and adults with Down Syndrome and other unique physical features by providing custom frames that accommodate their needs.

"Individuals with Down syndrome have low or flat bridges, they are often forced to wear the wrong style of frames, which can be both uncomfortable and unhealthy."

Maria Dellapina's daughter inspired her to design glasses for people with Down syndrome.

"It touches me to know that Erin's World have made a wonderful difference in the lives of parents and how much better their children can see the world. Glasses should look like an accessory, not a necessity."
